For the moment look at what I made here <http://ooktech.com/jed/externalbrain/#Calendar%20Archives>, clicking on a day will bring you to a tiddler for that day (and create the tiddler if it doesn't already exist), which sounds like part of what you want. Eventually I will get around to packaging it into a simple macro to include in the plugin. For now, editing the thisBuildDayTiddlerText macro will change what the created tiddler looks like. Or you can just take out everything inside the second reveal widget in the thisBlogArchiveMacro macro, and remove the first reveal widget (just the widget) and it will only open the tiddler, not create one if no tiddler exists.
For the checkbox part that would be possible. What I have in part of the prototype for the widget is similar to what you are describing, but using a button. What you describe is a much better interface, but you could modify what I made to fit it. Once again I will hopefully get around to making a macro for this to put into the calendar plugin.
