Drag and drop is indeed implemented similarly to clipboard operations. However, "paste from clipboard” has been in TiddlyWiki5 for a few years. Up until recently it only worked in Chrome, but now it seems to work in Firefox too. To try it out, copy an image to the clipboard, and then click on a TiddlyWiki window background, and use the menu or shortcut key for paste, and you should get an import tiddler for importing that image.
