I transfer this way frequently without incident. Is it possible that your smartphone is going into lock screen mode before the file is completely transferred? I believe the phone needs to be unlocked until the transfer is complete.
Another thing to try might be some other method of transfer. I use syncthing routinely to transfer TW files. Although I have to reboot the app once or twice every time I use it, it does work eventually. You can use es-file manager to turn your phone into a ftp server and transfer files that way.
