Using Thomas solution together with the Smart TOC extension for chrome works just fine for me.
this is the extension: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/smart-toc/lifgeihcfpkmmlfjbailfpfhbahhibba/related it has a github page, unfortunately I am no coder/programmer I was trying to understand a way to get the piece of code to reproduce what the extension does but I just can't.
