What I mean by initial log in is as follows:

- This is from the console at the local machine.
- This is at the graphical 'login' screen that I think is known as the 'GDM
Greeter'.
- Just to be completely clear, this is the screen where the user selects his
account and then is given the opportunity to enter a password.  At the
bottom of this same screen, the user can select various parameters such as
'language', 'keyboard', and 'session'.  
- Selecting the 'session' is what I'm doing that has no subsequent effect on
what the vncserver then displays to any given user. 
- As I stated earlier, if you use the new script in xstartup then the only
way I've found to get a different desktop for vnc for a given user is to use
the switchdesk utility and reboot the VM.

Hopefully this helps define exactly what I've been doing/testing.
