This whole section is here for renderd's non-metatile mode, which I was unable
to get working last time I tried to test it and was planning on removing it
altogether. I have an open draft pull request, but it needs some work after
several merges have created some conflicts.

Anyway, this HASHIDX_SIZE can remain until it's removed.
