FYI, the e-bay seller was Alexandra Carter. I thought maybe it was just mine, but another buyer recently received his and same problem. It heats up just fine (I don't have a way to actually measure the temperature inside, the outer case feels like it gets about as warm as a working unit.
In going back to read her description of the sale nowhere does it say that she checked out the frequency.... There are photos of a scope showing a sine wave, power applied, etc. The lack of any mention of an actual measured frequency should have tipped me off.. ------- Original Message ------- >From : Mark Amos[mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent : 1/14/2007 2:40:46 PM To : time-nuts@febo.com Cc : Subject : RE: Bad batch of HP10811's Time-nuts, Seems like a bad batch of HP10811's was dumped on e-bay over the holidays... Some (at least 2) won't tune up to 10MHz: one won't adjust above 9,999,530 and the other peaks around 9,999,920 after warming up for a day or so. It seems to stay on frequency (albeit the wrong one...) I did some preliminary checks (internal reference voltages, OK, etc.) I'm thinking that it must be a bad crystal to be this far off. C'est une cause perdue? (I.e. did I buy a "parts" unit?)
