I agree.  Older SpeedTouch models could use the "SIP Spoof" method of 
transparent ethernet-to-PPPoA bridging which works fine.  I use one here.

New SpeedTouch firmware like in the ST 780 always has the NAT module 
inline even when you use the "assign external address to internal 
system" functionality, and the NAT module has some kind of leak.  It 
always breaks down after some time of operation, dropping existing 
translations.

Those modems are no longer usable.  I tried to report it to their 
helpdesk but although they seem to be helpful at first, nothing finally 
happened with my request to get the old transparent mode back, and the 
problems with the NAT were not really acknowledged.
(although they are very apparent)
