Just curious, what time to live value do you use ? e.g. for how long other
name servers querying the pool DNSs are instructed to cache the IPs
returned by the pool DNSs ?
Also, I agree that geographical location is close enough for the system to
work but it is nevertheless interesting to see that some big providers do not
talk to each other that much (e.g. gateways in major cities). A typical
example is Videotron and Bell/Sympatico in Quebec, Canada. Here is a
traceroute to my neighbour cable-modem. Packets travelled 1800 miles and my
neighbour is across the street ;-)
I do not know why, but Videotron and Bell/Sympatico have only been talking
to each other in Chicago for years. I guess their definition of major
cities is New York, Chicago and San Francisco ;-)
