I went to the Bismut site -- even the English version! -- but can't
find Crisis. Can someone please give me more specific directions?

   Thanks --

Crisis has two on Bismut (www.bismut.com)
1.8 and 3.0. The 3.0 has realistic instruments, but requires 1.5 to 2.0 gigabytes of ram.
Ram is cheap nowadays, depending on the make and model.
I'll be getting a Dell Insperion 521 soon.
I'll try 3.0 on it and report back here.
You can also look and CAMC for soundfonts and MIDIs.

The Crisis 3.01 appears to be a very interesting sound,
but, even though I have sufficient RAM on my machine,
it is unreasonably large for rendering a lot of music
which does not require all 128 instruments.

A better solution would be to package the instruments
separately as single files and then load only those
files that are necessary for rendering a particular
composition. For example, to render a string quartet
only the violin, viola, cello, and double bass soundfonts
need be present in memory. TiMidity++ easily can handle
such a situation and does not require the full package
to be loaded.

Has anyone packaged the soundfonts from Crisis 3.01
as separate files, or at least groups of files?

Perhaps a soundfont editor could be used to extract
the individual soundfonts from Crisis 3.01. This would
allow a user to select and use only those soudfonts
needed for a particular rendering.
