Just to let you know that I've implemented PostgreSQL + DRBD + HA using Debian in a high-volume production environment. This provides a highly-available back-end for a POS system (unfortunately not Open ERP) with ~40 terminals per installation. We have ~5 of these installations and they've been chugging along reliably for upwards of 4 years now. You are correct when you say that integrity is preserved per transaction. During fail-overs, the POS terminals don't feel the impact of the switch. All committed transactions are carried over, with a true RAID-1-over-Ethernet feel. We are very satisfied with the performance and reliability of this setup, and highly recommend it for anyone who is satisfied with active + hot-spare (vs active-active). It adds some complexity with respect to managing updates especially with package management, since generally the binaries will be outside what is protected by DRBD, so therefore you'll want to upgrade one, fail over to the other, then upgrade that, to keep the binary versions in sync. Otherwise, it's excellent.
