Note: if you install from package, you must block package update, because you
cannot update the package if you don't --update the database too. So you loose
the main advantage of packages (apt-get update magic command).

There are several reasons why I use source installation. Main ones are :
- It is easier to run separated codes of OpenERP serveur
- I jail the user in his directory. Since you can upload and execute modules, I
think giving rights in /usr/lib is not the way to go.

When do you need separated codes between servers ?
 - to allow module upload without impacting all databases
 - to separate document repositories
 - to test a change before putting to production
 - when something is hard-coded and must be changed (ftp port, demo-user
password, report formats)
and so on...

Can you live with a single server in the case of a single organization ? Yes,
most proprietary software implies to do so for licensing reasons. But in this
case how to manage trainings and sand-boxes, tests and migrations, when it is
so simple to separate OpenERP serveurs and execute them freely ?
