Hi,
Thanks for the good job done and your proposal!

I am talking as end-user and with a lot of experience in AS400 ERP usage, so
far away from the openerp GUI. Here are my thought after 6 month use for a
trading company (mostly use of product/order/purchases/financial), concerning
usability:
- you should think about who uses more the ERP and what are the screen more
intensively used. The most intensive user are Order Entry staff (purchase but
more is sales) and accounters in my case (logistic people would probably focus
on warehouse staff).

- how is a common user accessing their main screen: probably most of the time
through favorites (product, new sales order etc...) and then they barely need
the menu.

- current screen for OE are a pain in the ass for speed entry (I am using the
variant module as I have several hundreds of references due to sizes and
colors):
-- multiple screen pop-ups, selection by clicking
-- no possibility in the order lines to really key an article number + key a
variant + quantity + optionnaly price (which is the only information that
really changes if the system is well setup).
-- after validating the previous information, the cursor should be in the right
button or field to continue keying.
-- you need to use alternatively mouse and keyboard which is the most annoying.
-- You need to reenter all lines to renumber them each time!
-- In the end, you need one first screen with major information
- You could increased usability for Invoices very easily by:
-- just add automatic numbering to order entry that you automatically get into
Invoice form
-- make mandatory the fields that should be.

In summary, OE in openerp is probably 2 or 3 times slower than in the AS400 ERP
I was using before.
Here you need to think like end-user and observe how they input mass
information and how to minimize the time needed.

- Concerning proposal. That s a good job but I see it as very complex screen in
the end, which gives a feeling of complexity when you have to train users and
documentation-making difficult. Remind that most of the users will access the
form they need through a favorite saved link.

-I am concerned as well about screen area shrinking because filled with many
buttons and menus etc that we finally use very seldomly.

- Field screen should really be improve so I appreciate the given proposal
for this aspect.

- I think, as well, there are more important things to do for 5.2 than this
relooking.
In summary, I am more in favor of keeping simple horizontal menu true, a
horizontal or vertical menu with quick links and a favorite link as base.

kind regards.
Eric
