Somebody posted a workaround that worked for me too (issue #116 on 
tinyos main google project:

"I have a custom application based on cc2420x which exhibits the same 
problem. Compiling with -O2 instead of -Os solved the problem for me 
though."

Thus, it seems a compiler issue.
