I agree. This is such a problem that in Dreamweaver, there's a "Clean Up
Word HTML" option that cleans out all that stuff. For Dreamweaver users,
it's under the "Commands" pull-down menu.

Oooh, in my experience this is a big mistake.  Most word processing 
applications (especially MS Word) embed lots of pesky hidden codes in 
there which can make a big mess unless the user is using MS Explorer 
to read the site.
