I take back the terrible things I said about Jane Pauley.  Having just watched the first 15 minutes of the show, I can see that it was not personality disorder that was the engine driving the presentation, but more likely simple greed.  It's a book promo disguised as a TV show.

I think personality disorder may an even better diagnosis, given that a person is going on prime-time national television because she believes that recitation of her particular problems in living are news worthy and ought to be important to the millions and millions of people watching this program.

I'm reminded of Wendy Kaminer's summary of the recovery movement:  "Never have so many known so much about people for whom they care so little."

Well, even though sometimes I wonder if Jane Pauley has a personality disorder, I'm thinking you meant mood disorders, Beth.

For years, Stone Phillips and Jane Pauley anchored Dateline side by side. Tonight they sit across from each other for a conversation unlike any they've ever had.

In her new autobiography, Jane reveals that several years ago she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. It's a revelation that surprised many of her fans and floored most of those who worked with Jane -- including Stone. Few people knew she'd been that ill, and that during a leave from NBC, she'd been admitted to a psychiatric clinic.

Jane says she decided if only one good thing came out of her experience, it would be the opportunity to raise awareness about bipolar disorder.

Tonight, in her most in-depth interview, she talks about her illness and her image with candor, and her usual touch of humor.

That's tonight, on Dateline Wednesday, at 9pm ET, 8pm CT on NBC.
