All-
One suggestion to Michael's question included a quote from late night tv. At
first, I was wavering between taking offense or wondering why I didn't say it
first! Then as I looked at the original question over and over- the more I read
it the more I tended to have that same response. What in the name of Bill
Cosby's friend Rudy are you asking?

I do think I've grasp most of what Freud said (not that I agree with any of it
in any of the, minimally, three main versions). Now as to there being any room
for "a consciousness within the unconscious" I think I missed something. Isn't
that pretty much the definition of psychosis? Can someone explain how that
wouldn't fit the definition of insanity within any of the main Freudian lines
of thought?

In so far as my concerns about Ambien (note- the medical community often
jokingly refer to it as Shambien!), a salt sandwich is not something new or
uniquely likely with Ambien- things like that often occur with neurotoxicity,
dementia, in children, eccentric behavior, and under a host of other
circumstances (well, often, maybe that's too strong). :) Truth be told, we know
a lot about Ambien at the cellular and molecular level and a lot about its
general action within the population. But medicine and psychopharmacology also
involves the occasional "singing pig" (abberant result that's difficult to
explain within what we know). Pica and strange food choices, especially when
self report is involved, especially when using single cases and unverified ones
at that, is just not much of a big deal- at least not in what it says about the
drug. Ahem.

It appears that ambien poses a threat to the old subdivisions into
conscious,pre-conscious,and unconscious. Some people taking ambien are
experiencing a consciousness within the unconscious, and vice -versa. At times
conjointly. How else can one explain the making of a salt sandwich?
