University of Northern Iowa invites applicants for a tenure-track
assistant professor position in the Department of Psychology, to begin
August 2009. Area of specialization is open, but candidates with
research and teaching interests relevant to HEALTH PSYCHOLOGY (broadly
defined) will be strongly considered. Teaching responsibilities may
include health psychology, introduction to psychology, research methods,
and courses commensurate with the candidate’s research specialty.
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in psychology at the time of appointment,
provide evidence of scholarly activity, and demonstrate a strong
commitment to undergraduate teaching and graduate student supervision.
Candidates are encouraged to consider how their research interests would
complement existing strengths of the department and ideally will
communicate this in a letter of application. The current areas
emphasized at the M.A. level are Clinical Science,
Industrial-Organizational, and Social, plus an Independent Study option
designed for students who choose to work directly under a graduate
faculty member of interest, typically Experimental. The University of
Northern Iowa is a comprehensive mid-sized university in the riverside
city of Cedar Falls. The Waterloo-Cedar Falls area has excellent
schools, a population of approximately 160,000, and opportunities for
applied research and consulting. There are also opportunities for
interdisciplinary collaboration through the UNI School of Health,
Physical Education, and Leisure Services and other on-campus
