Anything by Nancy Andreason (e.g., The Broken Brain)is highly readable.

Subject: [tips] Layperson's Guide to Schizophrenia

I have a student in intro psych who has periodic contact with 2 persons who
have schizophrenia. She asked if I knew of any book for the layperson which
would help her understand these individuals. Of course, I told her to read the
material in her text but I had no other answer. Does anyone have any
suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
