Last week I purchased *Scientific American*'s recent release in their
quarterly Exploring series. . . but wasn't able to look it over until on the
step climber this morning. The volume (entitled "Intelligence") does a great
job of covering this topic, including articles by Sternberg and Gardner (of
course). Sternberg comments, as usual, on the inadequacy of standardized tests
such as SAT's for predicting success (of some relevance to the recent thread
on GRE testing). Gardner discusses the gross simplification of his theory of
Multiple Intelligences by educators. Also discussed are "g" factor, reanalysis
of data reported in Hernstein and Murray's "The Bell Curve", Savants, memory-
enhancing drugs, evolution, animal reasoning and empathy, and artificial
intelligence. Looks to me like great supplemental reading for an intro course.
. . Should be available at the store until the end of February.
