Tipsters,

The department I am associated with is in the midst of refining our methodology
curriculum. We currently offer research methods and experimental psychology.
Note that experimental psychology is taught in the as a survey of methods used in
the various disciplines in psychology (see the Kantowitz, Roediger, & Elmes text
for a nice example).

There is a bit of overlap between our research methods and experimental psychology
class. So we have decided to dissolve the experimental class and absorb it into
two new courses called quantitative and qualitative research methods.

My question to Tipsters is the following:

1. Does your department offer a research method class and what do you call this
class?

2. For those Tipsters that are involved in a clinical or experimental graduate
program. What type of research class are you looking for when assessing potential
students for your graduate program (research methods vs experimental psychology)?

3. Lastly, for those Tipsters that are involved in a clinical or experimental
graduate program. Do you prefer that a lab to accompany the research class (e.g.,
a 3 credit hour class plus 1 credit lab as opposed to a simple 3 credit hour
class)?

Please send your responses to me off list. I will collect responses and send a
report to the list. I think this is information other departments may be
interested in and I hope you take the time to respond. Thanks in advance!
