Here is the video showing the incident:

The notion that this in any way typifies British morality, or bears any
relation to the issue of "bystander apathy", is risible.

Michael: You have already forwarded to TIPS the video of Darcus Howe
spouting incendiary nonsense about the police blowing the head off a
man (presented as simply being near his home, rather than carrying a
firearm in a minicab that was stopped as part of an operation by a
special unit dealing with violent crime and gang warfare.). But this
takes the biscuit:

>Yard make the Guatemalan police look like boy scouts.

May I suggest you cease to post items on which you are manifestly
uninformed. There has been an extraordinary lack of violence in the
police response. In fact I have yet to see, read or hear of any
rioter/looter having been taken to hospital (or, indeed, even injured,
except in the case of one youth who was badly cut when he broke through
a shop window).

Anecdotal: A couple of days ago the Indian-born man who runs the
hardware store just round the corner from my place said to me something
on the lines of: The police are being too soft. In my country they
would have issued a warning for youths to keep off the streets, then
they would have gone in with big sticks to drive them off. Likewise, on
BBC radio yesterday evening a shop owner in Southall, London, said on
the police response: "They should put Indian police in England with big
sticks. All the policeman run after the gangsters, hit them whenever
they can. When the crowds behave like this they charge them so bad they
all run away."

This has even drawn the attention of Prime Minister David Cameron.
There was no bystander apathy when a group of rioters came to assist
a person who had been injured, but to add insult to injury, they stole
items from the injured indivudual's backpack. It appears that British
morality has reached a new low.
Btw,the violent reaction of British police and Scotland Yard make the
Guatemalan police look like boy scouts.
