The Department of Psychology at Dickinson College invites applications for a
tenure-track assistant professor in Health Psychology to begin Fall 2017. We
seek a psychologist whose research program focuses on the mechanisms,
biomarkers, or consequences of biopsychosocial processes involved in human
physical health. Preference will be given to applicants whose research and
teaching emphasize biological aspects of health.
The successful candidate will teach an introductory course in Health
Psychology, an advanced research methods course in Health Psychology, and a
senior seminar in the candidate's area of expertise. The candidate will also
teach, on a rotating basis with other psychology faculty, Analysis of
Psychological Data (statistics), and first year seminar. Introductory courses
have a capacity of 35 students and seminars have a capacity of 15 students.
Teaching load is five courses across the academic year.
We expect a strong commitment to teaching in a liberal arts environment and the
ability to involve undergraduates in research. The Psychology Department's
research-rich curriculum aims to increase students' abilities to understand and
produce psychological research and to recognize and critically evaluate claims
about psychological phenomena
(http://www.dickinson.edu/homepage/44/psychology/<https://exmail.dickinson.edu/owa/redir.aspx?C=0IpPIFxdQkO312FAq_ZYFspYzJaOctMIhnRc5wAnh04PJyt0l5g-IrvjPpHOUjDyJ7W-OGVMthc.&URL=http%3a%2f%2fwww.dickinson.edu%2fhomepage%2f44%2fpsychology%2f>).
Given that all health psychology courses will serve as electives for the
interdisciplinary Health Studies Certificate Program, the successful candidate
will be a contributing member of that program. The Health Studies Program at
Dickinson focuses on biological, interpersonal, and societal dimensions of
health and illness, and provides students with opportunities to explore health
from an interdisciplinary perspective
(http://www.dickinson.edu/info/20120/health_studies). As contributing faculty,
the successful candidate will have the opportunity to share in the governance
of the HEST program and will be encouraged to contribute to the teaching of the
HEST core courses (HEST 200/400).
Dickinson College is a highly selective four-year, independent liberal arts
college with 2300 students. It is located 20 minutes west of Harrisburg, PA,
and is a two-hour drive from Baltimore, Washington DC, and Philadelphia. The
ability to create inclusive learning environments for an increasingly diverse
student body will be an important characteristic of the successful candidate.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Psychology by the time of the appointment.
