Okay then. Your proposal is not a middle ground. It says that hybrids
are better.
That's not my read. The PR says '/could/ be preferred', which seems to say to the implementers like: check out that section of that RFC and do a proper analysis of your own system requirements and if that suits you better, implement that instead of this.
Personally, I am also fine with words like '/may/ be preferred' or something like that.
It's non-normative, and a very weak statement -- and IMHO a middle ground.
From the mailing list traffic, several other long-timers agree with that.
Please note that the document being discussed for reference is in the publication queue, reflecting broader IETF consensus -- including the TLS WG.
