You shouldn't need to change any settings. The message cache path should default to pending/.msgcache and create it if need be. Did you do a full get of the CVS? The stylesheet (display/styles.css) changed to incorporate the "new" and "old" message styles. You will need to copy this over your old stylesheet if you didn't use a link.
