I replied in more detail off-line, not realizing you had posted here. You need to configure Outlook to authenticate to your SMTP server. It's a checkbox somewhere on one of the configuration dialogs. Don't mistake it for the "Secure Connection" checkbox. That will simply tell it to use an SSL connection (like secure web pages), which tmda-ofmipd doesn't support. (You can configure SSL connections using stunnel, an SSL proxy, but that's *way* beyond the scope of this question!)
