What could offcourse happen, is that your qmail queue gets filled up with challenges, sent by TMDA, which cannot be delivered to the destination, since it is -for instance- a non-existing domain.
I am sure that qmail has some protections in place to:
1) Make sure your queue-disk does not get filled up 2) Make sure the queue expired every once in a while 3) Make sure a big queue does not mean high loads
If you enable all of these features, it could be -worst case- that mail delivery would stop for a while to prevent your system from crashing. IMHO thats a lot better than waking up one morning with a fried system ;)
