Testimonial:

I run clamav from the exim MTA on FreeBSD; everything installed and ran 
smoothly from ports.  In combination with sender address verification,
this is a couple hundred messages a day I do not challenge (about 1/2
incoming spam); to be honest, address verification is the biggest
factor.
