This is excellent advice.  I don't think that I ever mentioned to the list, that during my hospitalisations I have always spoken to a nurtritionist.  I think that they probably recommended that I speak to one because of my eating disorder.  One thing that she emphasized was the benefits of fresh fruits and vegetables as an aid to good healthy bowel control, and a general feeling of well being as well.  Every morning in the hospital, I ate stewed prunes and hot oatmeal, drank prune juice, and always ordered fresh fruit as well.  I am thoroughly convinced that this is why my bowel program went so well.  Even during the worst of the paralysis, I was able to eempty, as long as someone held me on the commode.  (Could not do the bedpan thing, no matter how hard I tried.)
