Heya,
I'm not sure if these words of wisdom have been passed on when creating a
TMNT story but here's one mistake you should never do:
Overwrite chapters!!!!!
When it says if you want to overwrite, don't do it! Just make a new
file for it if you're not sure you want to delete it or create an outtake file
of deleted scenes. I began writing quite a bit of stuff, saving it in
certain chapters. When I started to add events beforehand, I started
pushing the first scenes further ahead into higher numbers of chapters, somehow
doubling my text during the move. I did copy/paste, not cut/paste.
Big oops. Thinking I was deleting text I already saved into another file,
I removed a very large chunk of the story.
It was a scene where the TMNT get into their usual arguments about
something and I wrote it so well and so....them, I wanted to keep it.
Turns out, the scene wasn't doubled from a previous chapter and I deleted the
only portion I had that existed!!! I've looked everywhere and can't find
it. There was also a scene before it that made sense as to why they
started yelling at each other.
I was talking to Lisardo at the time and was moaning over the phone that it
was all gone. *sob* I can't remember all that I wrote but I do know
for a fact that's it's been erased and I'll have to re-write it the best to my
knowledge. Who knows. Maybe it'll be better the second time
around. Oh, and one more thing, whatever you write but may not want to
keep, KEEP IT ANYWAY! You never know in the future! Disk back-up is
not a bad idea, either. Now, at the moment, I'm not sure if I can sit
here and think over what I've previously written. It's too depressing to
do.
Brinatello *sob* :(
