I have listened to each clip like 6 or 7 times before writing my opinion....but I still feel like I am not getting the full feel without actually seeing the animation. I mean I feel no matter how amazing these people could be, its going to be weird because these are brand new voices that have to be assioctaed with characters we have known and loved for so many years... ya know? Anyone for the fun of ranting I have included my opinion on each one.
Donatello: I was disapointed this clip was not longer. I couldn't really get a good feel for the voice. It sounded a bit young to be, but maybe I have gotten so used to the fact that I think of them as older then me still, because I was eight when I started watching it, that I am forgetting they are 15 so I guess they would have young voices. I still wish this clip was longer.
Leonardo: I actually rather like this VA. His has a very Leonardo sound in my mind. Good dictation, which I feel is important in a character that tends to choose his words wisely. It is really hard to tell what to think of a voice actor from one single clip though. I mean what if all these clips where pulled out of episode one? I mean I know in anime it takes va's a few episodes sometimes to really get comfortable with a character and really grow into there voice. Things I could nit pick about here could be worked out by episode three.
Michaelangelo: Mikey's voice doesn't really seem like Mikey's voice to me. I don't know just something about it seems odd for the character. I can't pinpoint it right now, but its bothering me. I am certain it will grow on me though... and its kind of nice to hear Mikey say a complete phrase without using the word "dude" three times...*teehee*
Raphael: Oh I like... I am much impressed by Raph's and Leo's va's. Both seem to have captured the qualities of there character's rather nicely in there short clips. But it is kind of odd that the rest of the guys have sort of higher voices and Raph's is so deep. I mean Raph's voice is suppose to be deep, but it adds an odd sort of balance, I guess.
Splinter: At first I really didn't like this VA, but then as I listened to the line more, over and over, he has really begun to grow on me. I think I want to see the voice with the animation before I make a final say on this one.
April: Gee you wouldn't even know that this is the same women who does Ash on Pokemon. She has a very pretty, very feminate voice, and from that line she came across as excited and proud of herself. I actually have always been a bit of a fan of Ms. Taylor. I e-mailed her once after an anime magizine posted her address for fan mail. I recieved the most kind letter from her. I think she will make a great April. I am excited to see what she will do with the character.
Casey: Casey kind of sounds like a crazy cab driver.....*giggles* But anyway, the voice is growing on me the more I play the clip. I think this is another one I am going to have see it with the animation before I can get the full effect and decide.
Shredder: I like this VA, He's one of my favorites on Yu-Gi-Oh and so far from this brief line I like the idea's he has in expressing a rougher, more in charge Shredder.
Hun: Its not the same VA, but this guy kind of reminds me of Goliath from "Gargoyles". Anyway, don't really know to much about this character so...yeah. *lol*
Baxter: Okay one complaint, why does Baxter get the longest clip!!!! *whines* I want more Leo voice.....anyway... Sounds really good to me anyway. He actually sounds like a really smart inventor sort of guy. That always kind of bothered me about Baxter in th first cartoon, he always seemed to have been set up to be a beating post for Shredder. Instead of him being protrayed as the genuis, yet crazy inventor that he is.
Well That is my very long rant *grins* And yes two posts in one week??!! Now I must lurk back into the shadows and hide *lol*
