I think that this has been discussed on the list before. You might want to check the archives.
If I remember correctly, this happens on a Redhat 9 system where the SSL libraries have been installed via RPMs. Before running your configure commmand, setting an environment variable via the following: export LDFLAGS=-L/usr/kerberos/lib You may also run into gdm issues as well, but given your location of Apache, I'm guessing that you compiled httpd on your own. If this doesn't solve your problem, check out the marcs.theaimsgroup.com archives and look for md5.
