What about System.exit() in a servlet?

Guys, I'm asking this question again in hope someone notices this time: Except for the stop command sent to the Ajp12 connector, is there another event that will cause a Tomcat 3.3.1 to shut down cleanly? We experience sporadic "spontaneous" clean shutdowns of Tomcat 3.3.1 and have no idea what causes them. We know these are normal shutdowns since the servlet log shows the contexts are being unloaded and servlets' destroy() methods are being called - just as if someone has issued a "tomcat.sh stop" (before you ask: nobody does). Any clues appreciated.
