ok, i installed ant and am now putting classes in the right places.
However, it seems that images and plain html files wont load through symbolic links either. There must be a setting somewhere for this!

There is plenty of great examples of exactly how to do this here: http://jakarta.apache.org/tomcat/tomcat-4.1-doc/appdev/index.html ** Which everybody who is developing web applications really should read. ** The context element should end up looking something like this: <Context path="/myapp" docBase="/full/path/to/my/build" reloadable="true" debug="99" > <Loader className="org.apache.catalina.loader.WebappLoader" debug="0" loaderClass="org.apache.catalina.loader.WebappClassLoader" checkInterval="1" reloadable="true" delegate="false"/> <Logger className="org.apache.catalina.logger.FileLogger" prefix="myapp_log" suffix=".txt" debug="99" timestamp="true" /> </Context> With the Loader element included, once the configuration is done once, you can just recompile your application directly into /full/path/to/my/build/WEB-INF/classes and it will update the classes nicely.
