I have not tried bare metal restoration with RH 7.0, but with RH 6.2 and
Mandrake 6.1. Here is what I have in my bare metal restore script (see my
web page for details):

# Now install the boot sector.
chroot $target lilo -C /etc/lilo.conf

where $target is the mount point for the / file system.

I wonder if the tomsrtbt kernel is simply too old for the version of lilo
on RH 7.0. Are you using BETA 1.7.205, which is the latest?

The version of lilo on RH7 is lilo-21.4.4-10.

Hmmm, looking at the two command lines, I do see one difference. You are
specifying a fully qualified path to lilo. I suspect it is the fully
qualified path after chroot has changed the root directory, so you are
getting the lilo on RH7.0. It wouldn't surprise me if it had problems with
the kernel on tomsrtbt. My command line assumes that lilo is in the
path. I don't know (neither the man page nor the info page specify)
whether the path is affected by the chroot. If not, that could be your
problem.
