Hi,
Following is an update about SCM work.
- Subversion (SVN)
- Internal Beta testing is in progress. We have encountered
some glitches related to recent major changes to our site
hosting machines that are being addressed.
- When those glitches are resolved, test repositories
for the Companion CD and JDS will be made available.
- At a minimum, repository copies will be obtained using
the anonymous checkout functionality.
- Individual projects may choose to add committers at their
discretion.
- We will use the tools-discuss alias for discussion and
questions/answers as we complete Beta testing.
- Mercurial (hg)
- We have a mirror of the ON repository that is using hg.
- When the glitches noted above are resolved, we will make
this mirror available as a sandbox to try out hg commands.
Copies will be obtained using the anonymous checkout
functionality.
- Volunteers
- Because moving to a new source code management system is a
big endeavor, we are asking for volunteers that can act as
area experts when groups start migrating their hierarchies.
- Please let me know if you are interested in being such a
volunteer for SVN and/or hg.
- Being a volunteer means you are willing to get up to speed on
your system(s) of choice (if you are not already). And it
will mostly involve sharing knowledge via this alias about SVN
and/or hg by answering questions, providing pointers, etc.
- To get started:
- General SVN information can be found at
http://subversion.tigris.org
- General hg information can be found at
http://www.selenic.com/mercurial
- Alias
- Discussions about Beta testing, transitioning to a new SCM
system and using these systems will happen on the
tools-discuss alias.
- Supportive involvement by everyone is welcome and appreciated.
- Target
- We are working to have both SVN and hg test repositories
available during the week of Sep 5-8.
Thanks.
Bonnie
