Having a modified file icon in a standard windows open dialog is a pretty nice 
feature.  I don't care about anything more esoteric than that.  Just seeing a 
red "modified" icon is handy and I'd miss it.

I'd also vote for a pretty slow transition for this.   We used tortoisecvs 
before jumping to mercurial and the icons were a salient feature for my team 
for about 8 years now.
