I think those instructions are not really complete because the extension is not distributed with Mercurial, you have to install it first. This page is better: http://mercurial.selenic.com/wiki/KeyringExtension Note that you also need to install the Python keyring library. To check if the extension is installed correctly, type "hg help" at a command prompt, this will give you a list of enabled extensions. I went down the same route and eventually noticed an error message saying something about it not being installed.
