I looked for a way to install reasonably modern (*) mercurial and tortoisehg
via PPA on Ubuntu 14.04 (at the moment „the stable” Ubuntu release). And:

1. ppa:tortoisehg-ppa/releases works, but gives fairly old versions:
     mercurial 3.0.1
   and
     tortoisehg 3.0

2. Both
    ppa:tortoisehg-ppa/stable-snapshots
  and
    ppa:tortoisehg-ppa/snapshots
contain tortoisehg 3.3.3 which requires mercurial < 3.2

3. There is no PPA in universe which provides such mercurial,
   ppa:mercurial-ppa/releases provides 3.3.2

4. I found ppa:jacob/hg which has interesting set of versions for Wily
and Vivid, but unfortunately for Trusty it has only Mercurial 3.1.

Does there exist any way to package-install reasonably modern mercurial
AND tortoisehg? For me personally installing from source is not a major
problem, but having various co-workers to do the same is much bigger
pain…

I even considered creating my own PPA but this seems absurdish
considering there exist „official” addresses.

(considering tortoisehg pickiness about mercurial version, I do not
understand why *snapshots don't provide appropriate mercurial)

(*) By „reasonably modern” I understand „with at least some support for
evolve”…
