Hi!

Using TortoiseMerge 1.12.0 I encountered this confusing situation regarding
encoding.

See attached screenshot.

0). The letter "R" is colored as changed, when it is not (this is not
related to the encoding issue, just mentioning it)
1). If I change the encoding for right view by doublecliking the status bar
item and select ASCII, nothing happens (the status bar now says "ASCII" but
the file content looks the same). Even if I set to UTF-16 (which should
make everything garbled), the displayed content stays the same.
2.) Doubleclicking the Left View encoding does nothing. Is there a way to
change the left view encoding? (note: I have old file on the left, new file
on the right. I opened TMerge from the "Log Messages" window by "Compare
with previous version")
3.) when closing, it asks if it should save the changes

This is all very confusing. Questions:
 - what does it try to save? I was comparing repository files, so there can
nothing be changed/saved
 - if it guesses the encoding wrong, how can the user change it?

Regards,
David
