During beta I used "arecord" which captures an audio stream from a USB audio device (e.g. Line-in adaptor or RadioShark radio). This can be used with netcat (part of Touch) in listen mode which means a byte stream of audio can be "requested" by a netcat call from another PC. No need for slimproto if using a separate SBS just a "nc" call from a protocol handler.
