Lets see if I can clear some things up here a little bit. The server the
SB is connected to determines whether it will get new firmware or not.
If the SB is connected to a "released" server it will very rarely
update firmware. If the SB is connected to a beta server release (which
currently is either 7.5.1 or 7.6) the SB will get nightly firmware
updates. There SERVER version does not have to be upgraded to get the
new firmware. As long as the server is a beta version the SB gets the
latest firmware even if the server version is not updated.

Things get a little strange on the Touch because the buitlin server is
part of the firmware package.

Here are some examples:

First lets focus on the case of having a server on a separate computer.
On Monday you install the latest 7.5.1 server (a beta version). When you
connect the Touch to this server it will notice that there is a firmware
update and install that on the Touch. Tuesday it will also see new
firmware, and install that. Wednessday no new firmware (the developers
didn't release one that day). Thursday again new firmware. This will
continue to get new firmware from the Touch.

Note you have NOT changed the version of the server on the computer. As
long as it is some beta version you will continue to get firmware
updates. Since the Server version does not automatically get updated
its a good idea to manually update the server version every so often so
things do not get too far out of sync.

Now onto using TinySBS. If the Touch is pointing at its own internal
server, which starts out as a released version, it will not update to
beta firmware. The only way to get it to update the firmware is to
either point it to an external beta server, or manually update the
firmware to a beta firmware release, which includes a beta server. NOW
you are using a beta server so you will automatically get future
nightly firmware updates. In this case you DO automatically get server
updates because the server is part of the firmware package.

Any other SB devices which are pointing at the TinySBS on the Touch
will now automatically update their firmware as well because the server
is now a beta server.

Of course in order for any of these automatic firmware upgrades to
happen the server has to be connected to the internet. If you are using
an external server its the server that actually downloads the firmware
from the internet and stores it on its local disk. When the Touch
connects to the server the server will then tell it there is a new
firmware version.

Make sense?
