Many people don't use _any_ of the Touch "features" that you mention.
So, yes, much of it was a waste of money. Frankly, the Touch was
designed as a consumer product trying to appeal to too many people. It
tries to be like one of those Swiss Army knives that has a can opener, a
screwdriver, and nail clippers, but doesn't need any of them to function
simply as a good knife.

IMO the internal server using a USB drive or SD card was a big mistake.
On a slightly different product (ala Sonos) with beefier specs it might
have worked, but Logitech missed badly with it.

The touch screen was unnecessary. Once beyond initial setup, many
people will never touch it again. The screen itself (as is the case
with past Squeezeboxes) is largely unnecessary if you use a different
controlling interface such as the Controller, an iPhone or iPod Touch,
or notebook with the web interface. It's too small to be of use for
information unless you're sitting on top of it. It looks good in the
pictures on the box and that's about it.

The point of the "tweaks" (if they do anything) is to improve the sound
quality of the Touch. They're meaningless to you if you find the most
impressive thing about the Touch is being able to play Pandora or
display the weather in South Africa while listening to NPR.

Like someone else said about the Touch (all Squeezeboxes): their main
purpose in life it to be able to get music from a _central_ computer
located anywhere on your network to your stereo system(s), also located
anywhere on your network. All the rest is Slim Devices & Logitech
marketing and the hope that many people would see these products as
revolutionary. That never happened, which is why Logitech appears to
be moving on to develop other networked media products.
