One possibility is that the pid file was not cleaned up, but the other
possibility is that smbd crashed and left the pid file behind. The
message in the log file points towards the first, but it's too early to
say. Note that I did not try a reboot to see if it fixed that issue.

I remember that in the past I was able to browse the shares and I was
mostly stuck on the second issue (password), so this pid issue may have
only be temporary.
