done some further playing and discovered that it will infact turn screen off when stopped or playing however when i pause from either web gui, ipeng, squeezecommander then this dull backlight actually comes on, and whatever i do it will not go away unless I use the IR controller to wake up the screen and then leave it to go dim as it should do.
