There is an automatic brightness mode that senses the light level in the room and dims the display when it gets dark. You can adjust the minimum brightness level (the brightness it goes down to when the room is completely dark). If you want the clock to be very dim during the night, set the mode to automatic and the minimum brightness to very low.
