There's nothing unduly stressful about decoding FLAC - FLAC is an
asymmetric compression format that is very light on cycles during
decode.
This is ALL theory - no one has yet PROVEN that the side-effect of
client-side FLAC decode is audible or measurable.

I have good ears, good acoustics and a good system. I also have a
measurement method which works. In no case have I ever detected a
difference in the output of an external DAC when streaming PCM vs FLAC.
There my be an effect on the internal Touch DAC, but that's a different
matter entirely.
