..for the thoughtful and helpful comments. The amp used to output to the front 2 speakers plus subwoofer in pure direct before I moved it. I'll check the submenus again though in case I've missed something. Meanwhile I've done factory reset on the amp and its now working fine in default mode. I appreciate the comments about 'pure direct' possibly being undesirable anyway and will continue to experiment with different modes. cheers J.
