Thanks for the response.

As you said, the speedup is likely negligible and might only matter if 
there are loads of custom fields, but as I was looking at the code of this 
section anyway (we were backporting a changeset) I felt I might as well 
raise the issue.

In the future I'll make an enhancement ticket and provide a patch so that 
someone can just OK and apply it.
