I think now would also be a good time to release 1.3.1 from trunk, so
that we have a good "pre-Jinja2" state, more or less functionally
equivalent to 1.2, but on a cleaned-up code base (the huge list of
backward compatibility removal done in #11901 and related).

After that, I would propose to work on merging the jinja2 branch on
trunk. The status of that branch as described in the proposal page [1]
is still current.

Actually, I was wondering if it wouldn't be a good idea to get
myself reacquainted with the release process, so that I could help
produce more frequent preview releases on the 1.3.x branch. I could
start with 1.3.1 itself if it's not already in the works.
